Performance Tips Please
I was wondering if there are any tips for increasing performance. We just moved the site to a dedicated server with 2 Gig ram and two processors just for one install of DNN and catalook and it still looks so slow compared with this site. http://www.handyhardware.ie/ Which has a lot of products and yet it works great. Infact it probably has double the number of products than our instance. So it is obviously possible to make things run fast. But I have Googled a lot and cannot see any tip anywhere on how to achieve speed like above site. I guess I can always email them. But I feel it is a little cheeky. Our Server is 64bit 2008. SQL server is 2008, we have given it its own application pool, In DNN, Host/HostSettings/performance, we have Page State Presistence: in Memory Cache Setting: Heavy Authenticated Cacheability: Server and no cahche Compression Setting: GZip Compression In Catalook it looks it borrows from site settings and it is also showing heavy cache. Any tip will be greatly appreciated. Salar

Page State Presistence: in Memory

Your server is very slow. Maybe it’s not the processing time but it’s the time between a command and when the process starts on your server. You could test it via ping command. Normally it should be about 20ms. You server need twenty times longer.

Re: Performance Tips Please
HI! I have a similar dedicated server setup as you, excet that I only have one processor. I'm struggling with my store so I don't have answers. But I can offer suggestions that you can check out: - Since you're only using 2 gig ram, 64bit Windows might be overkill...not sure if the 64 bit version has more overhead that 32 bit would not. - After spending LOTS of time with the skin, I am wondering if removing the parts of the skin that you do not need might aid in performance. For example, if you're not using the ISBN field, remove it from your skin. I always comment out the parts I don't want and test before deleting because sometimes the code will throw an error if something isn't in the skin. I notice that the site you mentioned doesn't use lots of the functionality that is in the skin...maybe they removed the extra stuff. - I suspect that the photos on that site are small. I notice that the store code will shrink the photos to be the same size, but if you're using large originals, there may be a problem. I really wish the photos weren't dynamically resized because disk storage costs less than processor/response time. I'm playing around with the size of my photos to make it look nice, but optimize the performance. So...if you try something and like it, please let me know. I'm spending my weekend cleaning up the skin...

Re: Performance Tips Please
Many thanks SCI

here is the site FYI >> http://test.mro-info.com

I think I have realized what the issue is. I think it was around 3 am in my sleep dreaming about the previous day’s events, that I realized that the only thing I never tested from the beginning was to switch of Friendly URL in Host/Host Settings

So all I did was to switch off the Friendly URL and it seems that the experience has improved substantially.

We have this site now on two servers

1- http://dev.mro-info.com/ with Friendly URL on and another at test.mro-info.com with Friendly URL off.

The performance is painful with it on and acceptable with it off.

I think I will post this find in the main DNN forum since the issue is not from Catalook and it is from the Core.

Re: Performance Tips Please
I have now posted this here:

http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Forums/tabid/795/forumid/198/scope/threads/Default.aspx

I also noticed that Joe has said that there will be an effort in improving Friendly URL with future revisions of DNN.

For now I guess it needs to be switched off.

Also

Has anyone tried Page Blaster with Catalook. We had tried it long time ago on a site and it was good. But I am not sure if there are any issues using it with Catalook?
