Advance Category is not working

Hi,

I have import around 1000 product using catimport file and after that i am using advance category module to rearrange the orignal category but its not working for me...

I don't know what would be the problem there, in the excel shhet they have mentioned advance category column in the last is that category import id and  advance category id should be same or is there any other logic.

Thanks.

Re: Advance Category is not working
The column in the spreadsheet named AdvCatImportIDS is NOT the same as the Category ID (AdvCatID) field which identifies the category in the SQL database tables. When you create or edit an advanced category there is a field there called 'ImportID' in which you can put any value you want. This is then the value you put in the spreadsheet.

I have to say I usually set it the same as the Category ID as it is unique and easy to keep track of, but there is no requirement for them to be the same.

Note also that you can import a product to multiple categories by specifying multiple ImportID values separated by semi-colons  (;).

Graham

Re: Advance Category is not working
The AdvCatsImportIDs format needs to be in parent.child format - not the actual ID number.

An example menu structure like

Australia
Queensland
Brisbane
CBD

needs to be entered like  Australia.Queensland.Brisbane.CBD in AdvCatsImportIDs

If you are managing a large number of images there are a number of Image Management Databases around that can be scripted to export data. Imatch www.photools.com  allows you to create a virtual category structure and to export your category tree in the required format. Also has a very active and supportive forum.
Map the IPTC fields of the jpeg to the required Catalook Property Fields. Then using a custom script export all required data as a catimportitems.xml file. Using this method all the data is kept with the image and its easy to trace/read errors using notepad rather than using Access or Excel. Spot a mistake or need to update data or add an advanced category just select the images in question - run the script, import the catimportitems.xml to your Catalook Store and the products are updated.

Re: Advance Category is not working
Just spotted my mistake
"needs to be entered like  Australia.Queensland.Brisbane.CBD in AdvCatsImportIDs "

Should be
Australia
Australia.Queensland
Australia.Queensland.Brisbane
Australia.Queensland.Brisbane.CBD
if you want the product to show in each level of the advanced categories
