Portal Synchronization
I am attempting to setup a Child Portal Store with product data synchronization from the Parent Portal.
Unfortunately I can't find enough information for even much of a start at it.
1) I have created the child portal
2) I have checked "product data synchronization" on both parent and child.
My expectations were that the parent products would now be present on the portal. But nothing has happened.
I haven't found any significant doucmentation on the topic.
My objective is to share all existing products from the parent site through the child site. With no additional products on the Child site. So what I have currently is a parent site fully stocked and an empty child site that would like to sell items from the parent.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Re: Portal Synchronization

Hello Skip,

Yes to do this you will need to follow these instructions:

Go into the parent portal---catalookNet store --> Products --> search filed enter "*" hit the arrow --> select export all products --> choose xls (excel) --> download "items.xml" from "/portals/0/" --> open items.xml and remove header row with export information so that title row (row 1) and products only remain --> login to child portal --> catalooknet store --> Store settings --> data import --> import the items.xls --> make sure product sync is enabled on this portal as well --> update cart settings --> clear cache.

This should be it. If you have any issues just post back.

Re: Portal Synchronization

forgot to mention the key to it all for your sense of sanity. The product ID that is output on the items.xls export is the field that makes it all happen. As long as the product ID is the same for the product across both portals, the product will sync.

Re: Portal Synchronization

Thank you much for your helpful reply....
On another note; is there a way to export import categories (standard and advanced) from parent to child?
thank you again,

Re: Portal Synchronization

No problem at all, that's why I am here.

To answer your next question, the standard categories should have exported with the items and thus, will import with them as well. The advanced categories are supposed to allow for uploading now however you would still need to go into them and set up the names, permissions, titles and keywords manually, which for me, it's easier to just go in there and create them by hand.

Re: Portal Synchronization

Hi, I have failed miserably in getting the product synchronization to work!

Your forum posting here indicates that the key to success is making sure the product ID is the same across the various portals... However, I have found that the product ID (1st column in the excel spreadsheet) does not import into the other portal... this number auto-increments beginning with the next available numeric value, so the product ID will not necessarily be the same...

This product sync advise is different than what Catalook's admin user manual says. The admin user manual(page 203 dated version dated 6/11/08) says the following:

Database synchronization between portals

The Product tables of all portals which have the [Product data synchronization] option enabled will be

included in the synchronization job.

The unique key is the field (column) ProductNumber of the table CAT_Products. This field is named

[Item code] on module CAT_Products. If a field of the table CAT_Products which is included in the

synchronization is changed in one portal all products of the other portals with the same ProductNumber

will also be changed.

I have tried it following your advise, and also following the admin user manual's advise. Neither seem to work for me!

Ugggghhh!

What am I missing? I am still in the initial testing mode with a few test products. So, I tried using the database maintenance option at bottom of catalook store settings to

, thinking this reset the auto-index product ID value...

Any advise would be appreciated! Thanks!
