Google Analytics FYI

This is just a quick FYI for everyone utilizing the analytics script from Google.

If you would like to use the new script from Google instead of the js legacy one there are some simple steps you can do.

For one DO NOT use the text/HTML module anymore for this. I know Mitchel Sellers has a very good tutorial out there telling you to do it this way, but it only works with the legacy script. If you are using catalook, simply add Google as a vendor. Once added, go into the vendor edit screen and add a banner for them. In the banner setup, select "script" as the source and then copy and paste the new "gs" script from your Analytics account into the text box for the banner, name the banner group "Analytics". Once completed, you just need to add a banner module into the "banner pane" of your site. Make it visible only to administrators and then set it up to use the Google banner Analytics group.

That's it! Easy as 123 and you have very advanced analytics now and don't have to pay for some crap module on Snowcovered to do the same thing. I have it on 2 sites and it works perfectly. Otherwise if you are trying to use the text/HTML module, it won't use the new script and you will miss out on added functionality.

Aric

Re: Google Analytics FYI

Hi,

Nice tip!  Maybe you can shed some light on how to set up Converson Goals and Funnels in Google analytics when using Catalook.  I've tried before, but my main issue is that catalook uses the same tabID when going through the transaction process, and I don't want to put any scripts on the actual credit card details page, which in my case is the "iveri_request_form.asp" Ideally I would like to track users as they go through the payment porcess, and have the "Transaction Succesfull" page as the actual Goal.

Any ideas?

Regards

Julian

Re: Google Analytics FYI

Hi Julian,

I have not set up the conversion goals as of yet but it is on my list of "to-do's" When I do get into it and hopefully figure it out, I will post on here with my results.

Re: Google Analytics FYI
Hey there - quick question--do I need to display the module on every page? or will the new google script automatically detect all of my pages or what? Thanks in advance - great tip. In the past, I just added it to the bottom of my default.aspx page.
