VAT Problem

I am developing a UK store for a client, I have set VAT up in StoreSettings to 17.5%

(I have added a ZoneName in TaxZones called Worldwide, though have done nothing with it)

All items are listed excl VAT.

A user based in UK, France or USA (all I have tried so far) - thi sitem lists correctly with VAT incl price shown.

I have a user in Canada, where it is showing no VAT, I don;t think I have ever set up anything differently - why is it showing no VAT for a canadian but VAT for everyine else?

Thanks

Chris

Re: VAT Problem

You don't need to add a ZoneName, see instructions for Canadian taxes below:

Location and product or vendor specific taxes
  1. Add a [Zone Name].
  2. Select a country from the country selector below.
  3. Assign a [Zone Name] to one or more locations via [Tax Main / Sub Zones Administrator] below.
  4. Search for a product via module CAT_Products and select [Full Page Edit] from the list of search results. On the [Taxes] page of this module select a [Zone Name] and provide a value for [Tax(%)].
Location based taxes(It is not required to add [Zone Names] if taxes are location based only.)
  1. Select a country from the country selector below.
  2. Insert the tax rates into the [Tax(%)] fields for the locations of your customers.
Other Methods:
Use the module CAT_Customers to assign a default tax rate to a customer account or the module CAT_StoreSettings to enter a common tax rate for the store.
Turning on option: [Tax exempt] for a product will exclude it from tax calculation.

[VAT ID / Tax Ident Number(UID)] Handling:
To calculate taxes for customers with and w/o [VAT ID / Tax Ident Number(UID)] select [View Options] from the module menu of module CAT_Cart and find all [VAT ID / Tax Ident Number(UID)] settings in section: [Tax Options].

Canadian Taxes
  1. Select: [Canada] from the [Country] selector.
  2. Insert the GST rate in the Tax(%) field of first row (country only).
  3. Insert the tax rate in the Tax(%) field and the Tax Rate Name in the [Tax Rate Name] field for the province/territory: PST, QST, HST etc.
For [QST] the sales tax is applied to the total of the selling price plus the GST (Stacked Tax).

Re: VAT Problem

Thanks - I mentioned that I had created a zone so that I had detailed all that I had did - having created it - how do I delete it?

It doesn;t explain why there is no VAT hsowing for Canada, but VAT for everywhere else.

I have set VAT in Storesettings & nowhere else, so I would assume that VAT should be shown for all countries - is his not the case then?

Re: VAT Problem

You don't need to delete the zone name. Simply don't assign the zone name to any location or product.
Canadian taxes are calculated in a different manner. There are 2 tax values e.g. GST/PST. Therefore you must specify them via module CAT_Zones.

Re: VAT Problem

I need to charge them VAT.

I have gone into CAT_Zones, chosen Canada from the dropdown.

Ths instructions state:

In order to display an additional excl. tax or tax incl. price based on the selected language if a user is not logged in, provide a tax rate for the first row (country only).

However the first fow is for Canada Alberta, not the country.

I have set this to 17.5  and tax rate name to VAT.  I still do not see any VAT added when I try to go in to buy an item.  (the user does not put a region in when they register, only the country).

I hope that you can help - this is extremely frustrating...

Re: VAT Problem
Valid tax rate names for Canadian taxes are e.g. PST, QST, GST. I guess you have an older CATALooK version. To get (country only) field, please update to the latest version e.g. CATALooK v05.04.01/DNN4.6.2 or CATALooK v05.03.09/DNN4.5.5.
